It's very surprising how, to someone who is noticed less in typical high school society, (no, I'm not "Emo," or even depressed in any way) this book seems to replicate the typical High school society. At any given point, while school is in session, you can look around the halls and see the conformists that make up the entire "popular" high school class. Everybody seems to spend money to look exactly like any other given person. whether they all wear the same clothes, or dye their hair in the same way, its quite sad really.
The book Brave New World shows exactly what I'm disgussing, in a complete world view. Everybody has their pre-determined class, and within that class, each person tends to dress, and act EXACTLY the same. Yet, in this book, there features one person who does not wish to follow the trends of every day life. This also tends to happen within highschool: The girl who wishes to keep her breasts inside her shirt. The guy who doesn't think about sex everyday of their life. Yes, these people are out there, however, they are forced to conform to the typical "Show off your breasts/have sex with your girlfriend whenever possible." out of simplistic fear of having paper balls thrown at them. Paper balls as a metaphor for the dislike, the judgements given to them from those that are content in being another similar face in the crowd. Sometimes, you need to wonder, why are people so content when they have given up all individuality...
